On July 4, Mike called early AM. He found a bleeding black lab puppy along the side of the road that he delivered to the animal hospital. The puppy turned out to be a 6 month old female black bear in shock. We treated the cub with intravenous fluids and medication for 2 days. She responded well. We named her Lena Claire Bear and, after 5 days, we transferred Lena Claire to an outdoor pen. One month later, the game commission came, tagged her, and released her in the woods near Milford. One year later, Lena Clair Bear came back to thank us and, although she tried, she could not resist the temptation to snack at our bird feeder.
